Sick...
Being sick is lame! I have a massive test in two days, and a huge paper next week. Again being sick is lame. I am reminded of the body of death that we dwell in. Just a common cold brings the stark awareness of the reality of death. Lord give me the grace to see through an ailment to see into your promises of rest and peace.

My wife and I recently participated in a relationship enrichment seminar. Some of the material was new, but mostly it was a chance for us to work through some things. I am a fan of maintenance, especially preventative maintenance. That way when problems do arise, it is much less costly. One thing that we talked about was assertive communication. This means we actually tell each other what we really want, instead of suggesting it. This is huge for us, since we both have differing personalities. This takes both humility and boldness to do it well. What do you think?

Lasagne
This was my first time making it from scratch. I must say it tasted good. It was my wife's recipe, and it only took 3 1/2 hours including baking time!!! We had company over, and as always it was good to share in peoples lives. On another note, we got wind that Debra's job may be invaded by a supervisor who is getting invaded. We shall see. The Lord is good, so we will be taken care, it just might look different than it did last week.

Man shake
I must premise this particular story by saying I was in a creative and divergent mood, and I was trying to come up with an ultimate man meal.
This happened months ago, but recently brought to my attention by my wife in a conversation we recently had. We were talking about meat and beer. I like both, but at the moment I can't touch the later due to school policy. I told my wife, "wouldn't the ultimate man meal be meatballs and beer?" She nodded and added a slight approval. Then I took it to the next level. "What if I combined the two in some way?" She looked at me rather oddly and said, "what do you have in mind?" "A man shake!" She said, "excuse me," with a rather worried and surprised expression. I said, "Yeah, why not blend the meatballs with the beer. It saves on dishes, time, and it's a shake!" There was a brief pause, and then she added, "That's disgusting, creative, but gross." I have yet to try it, but I still think it's a good idea. The ultimate man shake, meatballs blended with a good stout and of course watching some sporting event. Any takers?

Transitions
Some things do change overnight. My wife and I moved from California to Oregon, and from San Francisco to Portland. We are in the middle of looking for a local expression of the church, I have started at a new school and both of us are in new job scenarios that are, at the moment, temporary. I feel like I'm in high school again! Anyways, the point is that this life transition happened overnight. However, the preparation and research took almost a year. This isn't supposed to be profound, just real and ongoing. I sense that many believers (by believers I mean followers of Christ) are almost always in a sense of transition from one thing to another. This isn't necessarily about big moves and nasty situations. I am thinking about a daily one. Where believers are constantly being challenged to transition from "glory to glory ( 2 Cor. 3:18)." Whether we feel settled, or just had a major life change this internal, underground (if you will) current of truth is always moving us closer and closer to God himself.
